Culinary crazes: 10 insane things you are going to be eating this year

Cooking isn’t just to fill your stomach! Nowadays, foodistas are trending by the thousand on Instagram, reminding us that food is also a form of art! And as with all fashions, trends change like the weather. Here are 11 curiosities that you are sure not to miss this year…

Culinary trends come and go. Although in the early 2000s ,we were marvelling at “molecular” dishes, nowadays “green” products appear to be all the rage. Food peels, insects or plant sausages – cooking is undergoing an overhaul!

1/ Insects

You couldn’t have missed out on the “insectivore” trend, which is currently exploding in specialised shops. Grilled larvae for a starter anyone? Eating insects in order to save the planet is one of the trends making a splash. Or a splat….

2/ Food peels

Fans of the Zero Waste movement know it only too well: there is no such thing as an ideal waste disposal solution, whether your goods are made of plastic or whether they are 100% biodegradable. This is why using potato peels or carrot peels to make crisps has become an increasingly common trend. Nothing is wasted, every last bit is used up.

3/ Flowers

The resources nature offers us are precious. Certain flowers can even be edible. Rose petals, violets or hibiscus – flower power is back with a bang!

4/ Drinking charcoal

You may already have noticed a few people strolling around town with transparent water bottles containing a strange and suggestively shaped black stone…. This distended member is none other than activated charcoal, which can change water into not wine, but into a mineral ‘shot’. In fact, it aims to purify the water.

5/ All things vegan

Vegetarians are being gradually overthrown by vegans. Dairy-free cheeses, vegan meat, tofu or soya sausages, and all of which taste (almost) as good! A great step forward for the future of our planet.

6/ Poptails

We could call also call them cock-ices, but it’s true that this name could have some unfortunate connotations. Perhaps we should simply stick to iced cocktails. Or poptails, if you prefer. These alcoholic ice lolls are a hit this summer!
