Socks that disappear one by one in your washing machine, so they never again meet their matching pairs -a first world problem that we are all sure to have experienced! And you don’t know what your feet are getting up to, but they are never done putting holes in your socks! So as a result, you find yourself with an increasing quantity of unusable socks, and you never quite know what to do with them. So instead of throwing them out, why not re-use them? Here are 12 great ideas.
1/ A soft toy in the shape of a rabbit
Pour some rice into an old sock (but not one with a hole in it!) and seal the end tightly with a piece of string. Make a ball in the centre and tie it in the same way. With the piece of material on the end, cut the rabbit’s ears. Have fun designing the face, going as far as your artistic talents will carry you!
2/ Fleecy cupcakes
Are you never sure what to do with your fleecy socks when you have lost one of them? Roll them into a spiral and store them in small containers. A gourmet ornament for your bedroom or bathroom, or an original gift for a loved one.
3/ A phone cover
There is nothing better than a thick woollen sock to protect your smartphone from the daily battering it gets.
4/ Anti-slip socks
Maybe your floors are slippy and unforgiving, especially for people in socks…. To minimise the risk of falling, apply some thick glue from a glue gun onto the soles of the socks. And there you have it, improvised anti-slip socks!
5/ A customised draft stopper
In the same way as you made the rabbit soft toy, fill a very high sock (or a stocking) with rice, and place it in front of the doors to prevent drafts in winter.
6/ Make mittens from socks with holes in them
Instead of throwing out wool socks with holes in them, patch them up and make winter mittens.
