7) She owns all of the sturgeons, whales, porpoises and dolphins in the United Kingdom

This law, passed in 1324 under the reign of Edward II, states that “the monarch owns the whales and sturgeons found in the sea in all parts of the United Kingdom”. This ancient law has never been withdrawn. As a result, the Queen can reclaim all the fish and sea mammals caught within a five kilometer radius of the British coast.

8) She has her own ATM machine

Located at Buckingham Palace, the Queen has her own ATM. She doesn’t waste time having to queue like the rest of us!

9) Her wedding dress was paid for with ration vouchers

Queen Elizabeth got married at the end of the Second World War. The United Kingdom was still in a state of emergency with strict restrictions in place, and there were no exceptions made for the Queen. She therefore had to buy her wedding dress with ration vouchers. For the occasion, the State gave her a present of 100 supplementary vouchers.

10) She is the first monarch to have ever sent a letter

In 1976, Queen Elizabeth sent her first letter by post from a British military base, long before this became common practice.

11) She is the longest reigning monarch in British history

On the 9th September 2015, Queen Elizabeth became the longest reigning monarch in British history, surpassing the reign of Queen Victoria, her great-great grandmother. Since the 13th October 2016, she is also the oldest reigning monarch.

12) In total, the Queen has more than 30 dogs

Her Majesty seems to like dogs, with a particular affection for Corgis. She has in fact got two Corgis, Holly and Willow.
