We have for you a photographic series of eery abandoned asylums that look like they could be from a horror movie!

1) Danvers State Hospital, State of Massachusetts, 1878-1992

The first on our list is the most frightening asylum of Danvers State Hospital, also known as “The king of Asylums”. This asylum based in Massachusetts was built in 1878 to care for 600 patients, however by 1939 there was about 2,360, resulting in poor care, dirty conditions and patients dying but not being found for days by the staff. The hospital was the first to use the transorbital lobotomy as a form of treatment (penetrating an instrument through the eye socket into the brain). The asylum was eventually shut down by 1992, and the building has been used in films such as “Session 9”.
