4/ The famine in Soudan
With this shocking photograph of an African child who is skin and bone with a vulture waiting to feed off his tiny body, the photographer Kevin Carter won the Pulitzer prize. The child survived the famine however the photographer went on to commit suicide.
5/ Burning protest in Saigon
In 1963 the Viatnamese monk Thich Quang Duc set himself on fire in the town of Saïgon, staying in the lotus position to protest against the violence committed against buddhists.

A mother and son are surrounded by the Brazilian CRS during a protest in 2009.
7/ A symbolic kiss
Some claim that it was an unprovoked kiss, others say it was staged as an opportunity to be photographed, either way this picture taken by Victor Jorgensen in Times Square the next day after the end of the 2nd World War was widely used to share the joy of this war finally ending.
