Urban myths: 11 widely held ideas you need to stop believing

7/ People with high cholesterol shouldn’t eat eggs

Certainly, eggs are high in cholesterol, but also in protein. Contrary to urban myths, several studies have concluded that we can eat eggs without fearing for our heart health. They even have certain health benefits. The cholesterol that we eat is only partially absorbed by the intestines. Whether the cholesterol comes from eggs or other foodstuffs, diet contributes to only 25% of the cholesterol in our bodies.

8/ Using the toilet for your number 2s is a harmless practice

For the health of your colon, it is better to do your number twos out in nature. Why? Because the squat position that you naturally adopt allows you to relieve yourself more easily. On the toilet bowl, your colon is not in a natural position. The trick, if you don’t want to switch fully to squat toilets, is to raise your feet using a step or a low stool.

9/ Exercise helps you lose weight

In the collective imagination, reaching your ideal weight requires hours and hours of sport every week. However, doing exercise doesn’t necessarily help you shed the pounds. Exercise is certainly excellent for your health, but could even have the opposite effect in terms of weight loss: although your silhouette may  be slimmer, you may not lose any weight on the scales. This is because the weight of your recently acquired muscle also adds up on the scales! Okay, so we admit that we are being a bit pedantic, but still! Don’t be discouraged if the numbers on the scales don’t change!

10/ Meat is good for your health

You may already know this, but red meat, as well as being questionable in terms of the environment, is not ideal either in terms of your health. The heart and the arteries are the first to be affected. Like with everything, moderation is key.
