12/ Christian Bale in: All his films!

Christian Bale certainly wins the gold medal for physical transformations in the movie industry. Anorexic, muscular, ripped … the actor went through all these steps and sometimes at the risk of destroying his health.

Let’s look at his transformations in more detail:.

  • Bale’s most extreme transformation was undoubtedly for his role in The Machinist. In this film, Christian Bale plays the role of an insomniac anorexic. He had to lose a whopping 28 kg for this role. How did he do it? Bale simply stopped eating! He hardly ate anything at all and only slept for two hours per night. In an interview with The Guardian he stated: « When you are so thin you can hardly walk up the stairs, it is like you have abandoned your body. This is the most zen like state I have been in throughout my life. Two hours of sleep and a book for ten hours non stop…it’s incredible. Nothing annoyed me. I had no highs and no lows. As soon as I started eating again rivers of emotions spread around my body.” Christian Bale took on other roles in which he had to lose weight like Rescue Dawn in 2006 and Fighter in 2010.
  • One of his most popular roles is undoubtedly Batman! Batman Begins was released in 2005, only one year after The Machinist. So he could create this role, the actor has to regain 28 kg of muscle that he had lost before.
  • Lastly, in 2013 for the film American Bluff and in 2018 for Vice, the actor had to almost become obese as he had to go from 84 kg to 103 kg. In the film Vice. Bale is hardly recogniseable!
