4/ Aghori

Aghori have been reprimanded by lots of Hindus due to their cannibal rituals to make them closer to the Hindu god Lord Shiva.  The members of the group wear a kapala, which is a cup made out of a skull that allows them to eat whatever they want from rotten meat to animal dung. Aghoris take pleasure from carrying out horrible rituals like chewing live animal heads or eating decaying human skin.

3/ Heaven’s Gate

Founded at the start of the 1970s by Marshal Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, this group were connected with OVNIS.  Members thought that joy could only be attained by fleeing Earth before the “great recycling”. The two gurus advocated that suicide was the best solution for this rapture. They even went so far as creating distributing videos for members about how to leave their earthly skin behind. On March 26, 1997, the police discovered the bodies of 39 members of the group including their founders. They had committed mass suicide to join what they thought was an alien spaceship…

2/ Westboro Baptist Church

In 1955 pastor Fred Phelps founded Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas.  The cult is known for its hate speech against members of the LGBT community, Catholics, Muslims, Jews and soldiers. As a ritual, members demonstrate their religious beliefs in six different places every day. They travel all over the United States to disrupt funerals of those who do not live according to their beliefs. In June 2016, they waved signs during the burial of the victims of the Orlando killing, where 49 people lost their lives in a nightclub. The signs said “God has finally sent his shooter”.

1/ People’s Temple

This sect organisation was founded by the Methodist priest Jim Jones.  In 1977, following sexual abuse accusation by former members of the organisation, the priest fled the country for Guyana.  While there he created a communist haven that was called Jonestown.  In 1978, a member of the Congress came to Jonestown to research into abuse complaints only to be killed by guards that were there to make sure the guru was safe.  The same night Jim Jones then forced 900 members of his crazy sect to drink poison in a collective suicide.
