9/ Children of God
This sect was developed by an former priest in 1968. Their main belief is that sex is a divine right no matter your age or gender. In 1978, the organisation introduced Flirty Fishing a process which involved women recruiting new members by having sex with them. In 1987 the group were forced to take the name “The Family” after several allegations of kidnapping, pedophilia and sexual abuse were uncovered. Six years later 70% of the 10, 000 members were minors. Since then, many of these minors have revealed that they were abused.
8/ The Church of Scientology
The Church of Scientology was founded in 1954 and represents one of the most “popular” religious groups that several famous celebrities have joined. One of their main beliefs is that the goal of your life is to get rid of any painful memories so that you can be a better person following a process called an audit. Once you are a member of the organisation it is almost impossible to leave. Former members of the group talk about prison camps where those who do not obey are sent to be indoctrinated again. In these camps called “Rehabilitation Project Force”, the members are forced to do difficult chores for 30 hours non stop and then rest for 30 hours on a damp mattress with almost nothing to drink or eat.
7/ Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded at the end of the 19th century by members of the Mormon church who were in favour of polygamy. This religious group thinks that in order to save a human soul you need to marry several times and have at least three wives. In 2002 Warren Jeffs the previous American president of the FLDS had 60 wives and some were only 12 years old. He abused children some of whom were from his own family. This man has now be incarcerated for life.
6/ Church of Euthanasia
In 1992 reverent Christ Korda founded the Church of Euthanasia. The principal ideology surrounds the commandment “Thou shall not procreate.” There are also four fundamental pillars including suicide, abortion, mortuary cannibalism and sodomy. The slogans of the members are even creepier such as “Save the planet and kill yourself” or “Eat a gay fetus for Jesus.” In 2003 a women was found dead in Missouri with a page taken from the organisation’s website. Today the group no longer exists information about suicide can still be found on the website.
5/ The Supreme Truth of Aum Shinrikyō
This sect which is linked with the apocalypse was founded in 1984 from Shoko Asahara’s craziness. The group is known for the tragic chemical attack in the Tokyo underground that killed 12 people and left around 5000 injured. The police thought the aim of the attack was to spark the apocalypse. Shoko Asharara declared himself as Christ and preaches the possibility of transferring his spiritual powers to his members so as to wash them of their sins.
