Don’t bin it reuse it! 11 great ways to recycle old objects

Why recycle old object when we can easily throw them in the bin? To start with it is great for the planet. What’s more if you start thinking up new ways to recycle old objects you might be able to save a bit of cash!

During our lifetime, we collect all sorts of useless clutter that just starts to get in the way. Think about all the time you waste dusting little trinkets that pile up your rooms and clutter up your mind. However instead of throwing stuff out we can transform these dust traps into something really useful. Recycling old objects is also a great way to reduce waste. Let’s get to it!

1/ An artist palette made from an egg box

Do you no longer know what to do with the hoards of egg boxs that clutter up your cupboards?  Here’s one idea that is good for the environment: keep hold of one so that you can fill it up the next time you go to a market! But what can you do with the hundred others that you have accumulated? An artists palette, of course!  It will be great to keep close at hand when you get the paints out.

2/ Freshener sachets to quickly demist the windscreen

Don’t throw away these little sachets that often come with a box of new shoes.  They can help you get rid of the mist that fogs up your cars windscreeen. They also have the power to revive your phone if you drop it in water.  If this happens, put your phone in an airtight bad filled with these sachets and wait until they have absorbed the moisture.

3/ Organise your cables with different coloured straws

Even if we don’t really used them, we always have straws lying around the house.  For once put them to good use.  Label and clip them to your cables.  You’ll find you spend much less time plugging in you cables!

4/ A floating key ring

For the scatterbrains out there, here’s what you’ve been looking for: a key ring that floats! It couldn’t be easier to make and without the need of any tools. Screw a small hook onto your cork just as if you are uncorking a bottle of wine backwards. Now you can attach your keys with a ring.  Perfect: a floating key ring!

5/ A cork to stop you from burning

When you lift up your casserole lid with bare hands it can often burn your hands.   Slide a cork under the lid to protect you from burning temperatures!

6/ Use a cork to make a candle wick

With the number of bottles of wine you and your friends go through you often find yourself with lots of corks piling up in your cupboards.  Instead of throwing them out, reuse them as a candle wick. To do this, soak your corks for 24 hours in a sealed jar filled with 70% alcohol. Next place your cork in a vase or glass candle holder and light. The effects are magical!
