Each flag has its own distinctive colours and emblems, which are recognisable at a moment’s glance. But do you know how your country’s flag came to be designed? Although all flags have their own official meanings, some interpretations are a little less traditional! Here are 12 of the somewhat more unusual ones, to be taken with a pinch of salt!
1/ Italy
Green for oregano, white for mozzarella and red for tomato sauce – the Italian flag is nothing but a flying pizza! Although not everyone may appreciate this interpretation…
2/ France
Red for the people, blue for the nobility, and a notable lack of green, for the ability to never surrender!
3/ Russia
White for purity and perfection, blue for loyalty and truth, and red for constancy and bravery. And another missing colour: green for intelligence and a lack of corruption! Irony, how do you do….
4/ Greece
Blue for plenty of sea, white for plenty of sun, but they’re in the red when it comes to money!
5/ Germany
Black for work, yellow for work, red for work. Still waiting for a touch of humour…..!
6/ USA
A truly free country, but a little over intent on what other countries are doing!
