The Congress Library is a research centre which is also considered to be America’s National Library.  Created in 1800, it is the oldest Federal Library in the United States.  It is also the biggest library in the world in terms of the number of books.

10/ Oberlausitz Science Library, Gorlitz, Germany

Oberlausitz Science Library has close to 140,000 volumes making it the biggest library in the region.  The magnificent building promotes the transfer of knowledge between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. This public scientific library is part of the historical and cultural municipal collections of Görlitz.

The Municipal Library of Stuttgart received a prize for being the library of the year in 2013.  From 1965 to 2011 the central library was situated n Wilhelms Palace. Giovanni Salucci originally constructed this building constructed between 1834 and 1840 as King Wurtemberg’s residence.
