15. The ADX Florence Supermax Prison, Colorado USA
This prison opened in 1994 and has the best system technology for security that exists. Located in Colorado, it is the home for the worse criminals in the country. There are currently 439 prisoners and many commit suicide, because they are completely isolated, not only from their inmates but also from the guards.
14. The Military Prison of Tadmor, Syrie
In 1980, the president ordered the execution of 600 prisoners held in the prison of Tadmor. It took 2 weeks to clean up the mess, but after time, bacteria’s grew and many inmates caught gangrene. Torture and executions included hacking off body parts from the prisoners and some had to stay in water until they died.

This prison in North Korea is no place to visit. It keeps politicians and is completely isolated from the outside world. All of the prisoners are captive for life. Sometimes their family members are held captive with them. There are more than 50 000 prisoners in this prison.

The prison was the scene of a macabre massacre in 1992 when the police arrived to calm a riot. In only half an hour, the police executed 111 prisoners, including prisoners who surrendered and begged to be spared in their cells. In 2002, the prison closed just after coordinated riots in 27 sectors of the institution
11. The prison Gldani, Géorgia
The prison made the headlines in 2012 when videos came out where there were guards ruthlessly sticking broom handles into the anus of screaming inmates. Other prisoners were captured, tied and chained to the bars of their cells while the guards insulted them. One day, a cigarette that was lit was inserted into the anus of one of the prisoners. When it was withdrawn, the guards forced the prisoner to smoke. When the video surfaced, the inmates were relieved that these incidents were made public, which resulted in the resignation of several senior officials.
