15 common things you shouldn’t do every day

Society is full of contradictions. One day going running is good for your health, the next it puts your health in danger. You shouldn’t take cold showers, but hot showers are not recommended either. You have to ask yourself what the real story is. Here are a few common things to avoid doing, that most people do on a daily basis without being aware of the consequences.

1/ Wearing the same shoes every day

It takes almost 24 hours for our shoes to dry out once we have worn them -even if you don’t notice your that your feet are sweating. This is one of the reasons why you should alternate the shoes you wear. Doctors in the old days even advised having seven pairs of shoes, to wear a different pair every day of the week.

2/ Showering directly after exercise

Wait until you have stopped sweating, or you could catch a virus. Avoid cold showers, and even if you feel very warm, go for lukewarm water instead.

3/ Sleeping with the light on

Are you afraid of the dark? Try to get over your fear as soon as possible, so as to avoid disrupting the quality of your sleep. Light can disturb the brain while it is asleep. Researchers have confirmed that people who sleep with the light on have poorer quality and less reparatory sleep than others.

4/ Showering in very hot water

Do you like your shower to be almost at boiling point? It’s time to stop, as your skin won’t thank you for it. Hot water dries out your skin, increases redness and inflammation and promotes the spread of bacteria. The ideal? A 6 minute long lukewarm shower.

5/ Never cleaning your toothbrush

If you think that your toothbrush is washed by the brief stream of water you rinse it with, think again! Toothbrushes are nests for bacteria, especially when there are pieces of food stuck in them. Disinfect your toothbrush regularly.
