15 almost indestructible plants discovered by NASA to help you effortlessly purify the air in your home

Did you know that even if you live in a city, the air that you breathe indoors is generally more polluted than what you breathe outside. This is due to dust, lack of ventilation, the use of chemical cleaning products, electronic devices, synthetic clothes and furniture that can emit toxic vapours when they are new, and other bacteria of all sorts that run rampant. So to avoid living in stagnant pollution -and if it’s too cold to open the windows in winter time -invest in a few plants! And rest assured, even if you are not particularly green-fingered, the plants on this list are almost indestructible. But don’t take it on our authority -this list is NASA approved!

1/ Ficus

The ficus has incredible air-purifying properties. It eliminates benzine, trichlorethylene and formaldehyde. According to the pot that is used, it can also grow very well. Requiring watering only once a week, these plants are very easy to maintain!

One of the most effective varieties in terms of depollution: philodendrons perfectly eliminate formaldehyde and trichlorethylene. With very few requirements, these plants can tolerate dark rooms.

Easy to find, cheap and colourful, chrysanthemums will be an invaluable aid in terms of eliminating vapours from ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde or xylene.

4/ Chlorophytum comosum (spider plant)

Chlorophytum comosum, also called spider plant, will work miracles in your stuffy interior: it eliminates formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, toluene and xylene. It is very easy to grow and needs little care. Even the roots of this plant are purifying!

5/ Dracaena

Dracaena eliminates benzene, formaldehyde, trichlorethylene and xylene. However, this plant can be toxic for cats and dogs. A shame.
