8/ Replace your plastic toothbrush with ones made from bamboo
You may think it’s nothing, but every day we stick a plastic wand in our mouths for at least three minutes at a time! And if this seems innocent, leaving your mouth in contact with plastic can have its effects. Change your ways and invest in bamboo toothbrushes for around the same price.
9/ Replace the vacuum cleaner with a wooden brush
If you have only a small living space, you can easily give up on the electricity-hungry vacuum cleaner and use a wooden brush instead, with natural bristles. Because unfortunately we haven’t yet found a plastic-free vacuum cleaner!
10/ Replace plastic cleaning utensils with steel ones
We are willing to bet that your mop, your bucket and your dustpan are all made of plastic… Replace them with buckets or dustpans made of iron or galvanised steel (anti-rust) and with a wooden mop. They look nicer and are more resistant!
11/ Re-use glass bottles rather than plastic
For topping up your drinks throughout the day, instead of keeping that old plastic bottle, recycle a glass bottle instead. You can also use them as carafes for the dinner table.
12/ Choose clothes and accessories in leather, linen or cotton instead of synthetic materials
In terms of clothing, go for natural materials like leather, hemp, linen, wool or cotton. Synthetic materials are often derived from plastic. Natural fibres will have you looking great, and for much longer!
13/ Replace Bic biros with fountain pens and pencils
Bic biros and other plastic pens are as bad for the environment as they are for children’s health. Go back to basics, and appreciate the particular smell associated with school benches!
14/ Replace cotton buds with eco friendly alternatives
Cotton buds contain rigid plastic. Try and replace them with eco-friendly, reusable alternatives made from wood or other organic materials.
