6. Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

The castle of Neuschwanstein was built by King Louis II of Bavaria in the 19th century. It is today the most famous castle in Germany visited each year by more than a million tourists. Each summer, more than 6,000 visitors a day jostle each other to the different rooms, originally intended to accommodate a single person.

7. Hohenschwangau Castle, Germany

This fortress was built by the knights of Schwangau near Füssen in Bavaria. During the XIIth century, this castle hosted many governors, including the famous King Ludwig II, who invited the composer Richard Wagner.

10. The Guaita fortress, San-Marino

The fortress of Guaita is the oldest and largest of the three towers built on Mount Titano. It was erected during the 11th century and was used briefly as a prison. After the last restoration in 1930, the fortress was made accessible to visitors.
