Work: 10 things you’d love to say to your boss, but which are best left unsaid!

Maybe it’s almost five or even ten years that you’ve been working for your boss, without ever having dared to challenge them, or ask for that well-earned raise. But sadly, staying coy never helped anyone advance their careers – your boss isn’t going to offer a promotion voluntarily!

It can be hard to find the right words to express what’s on your mind to your boss. However, like in a romantic relationship, the employer/employee relationship requires excellent communication. Here are 10 things you would love to say to your boss, but that in reality you’d never dare. And possibly rightly so!

1/ That’s not my job

Even if it’s the truth. Of course, you weren’t employed to refuse what you were asked to do. But if you were taken on as an accountant and find yourself doing nothing but making people coffees all day long, you are well within your rights to complain.

2/ It’s not my fault, it was him/her who made the mistake

The school playground is long behind us. There are times when you unfortunately have to take the flack for what isn’t necessarily your fault. Complaining your colleagues won’t help with your popularity.

3/ Stop watching me!

Do you suspect your supervisor of poking their nose around your private life? Well, do you have something to hide?!

4/ I’m overqualified for this job

So why did you accept it then?! You only have yourself to blame!

5/ Meetings are nothing but a waste of time

Are you convinced that staff meetings, conference calls and the other eternal meetings on your schedule are nothing but a waste of your time? If you have a day of nothing but back to back meetings, we understand. But if not, such accusations can be hard to justify!
