10 celebrities who died on the toilet seat

Even if celebrities spent most of their time living a life of glitz and glamour on the red carpet, or lounging in luxury Californian villas, they are still only human like the rest of us, and use the toilet to relieve themselves several times a day. And sometimes, this has led to rather unseemly deaths.

1/ Elvis Presley

We know that Elvis died from an overdose on the 16th August 1977. What is less well known is that The King died on the throne!

2/ Judy Garland

This multi-talented American actress (she was also a singer and a dancer) died in her bathroom in London on the 22 June 1969, due to an overdose of medication.

3/ King Edmond II

Edmond II was the King of England from the 23 April 1016 until his death, seven months later. His short reign saw English occupation following the invasion of The Great Cnut of Denmark, who took the throne. Certain sources report that Edmond was stabbed to death by Cnut while on the other kind of throne!

4/ Roman Emperor Heliogabalus

Heliogabalus or Elagabalus was a Roman emperor who reigned from 218 to 222 under the name of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. On the 11 March 222, when he went to the toilet, a crowd invaded the palace and assassinated him.

5/ Empress Catherine II of Russia

Catherine II, nicknamed “Catherine the Great”, empress and Russian dictator, died of a heart attack on her deluxe toilet seat on the 6 November 1796 in Saint Petersburg!
